Southern Cross Community Church Privacy Policy

The Privacy Act:

From 12 March 2014 the Privacy Act includes 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) that outline how APP entities (including churches) must handle, use and manage personal information. Personal information is information or an opinion that identifies or could reasonably identify an individual.  

Southern Cross Community Church (ABN: 17 802 034 987) is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) from Schedule 1 of the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012, which amends the Privacy Act 1988.

Below is Southern Cross Community Church’s application of Australian Privacy Principles and forms our Privacy Policy

Australian Privacy Principles and Applications at Southern Cross Community Church (SCCC):

APP 1:	Open and transparent management of personal information
SCCC manages personal information in an open and transparent way. This includes having a clearly expressed and up to date APP privacy policy.

APP 2:	Anonymity and pseudonymity
SCCC gives individuals the option of not identifying themselves, or of using a pseudonym. Limited exceptions apply.

APP 3:	Collection of solicited personal information
Collection of personal information will always aim to be fair, lawful and not intrusive. A person will be told the church’s name, the purpose of collection, how to get access to their personal information, and what happens if the person chooses not to give the information. 

APP 4:	Dealing with unsolicited personal information
SCCC will take reasonable steps to protect the personal information it holds (whether received by request or in an unsolicited way) against misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

APP 5:	Notification of the collection of personal information
SCCC will notify individuals or the whole congregation on when, how and why information will be collected and clearly stipulate the volunteer nature of this collection (limited exceptions apply). 

APP 6:	Use or disclosure of personal information
SCCC will only use or disclose information for the purpose it was collected (primary purpose) unless the person has consented, or the secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose and a person would reasonably expect such use or disclosure.

APP 7:	Direct marketing
SCCC will not use or disclose personal information for direct marketing purposes.

APP 8:	Cross-border disclosure of personal information
SCCC will take every step to protect personal information from being disclosed overseas.

APP 9:	Adoption, use or disclosure of government related identifiers
SCCC commits to restricting the use of government related identifiers to only exceptional and legally mandated circumstances. 

APP 10:	Quality of personal information
SCCC will take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information it collects is accurate and up-to-date. 

APP 11:	Security of personal information
SCCC will take reasonable steps to protect personal information it holds from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. SCCC commits to destroying or de-identifying personal information in certain circumstances.

APP 12:	Access to personal information
SCCC will allow access to an individual’s personal information (their own information only) held by the church upon request, unless a specific exception applies.

APP 13:	Correction of personal information
SCCC will correct, update or delete personal information it holds about individuals upon request or identification of an error.
